Q1: Yamaha pianos are mass-produced, but how do they compare with a handmade piano?
A1: The process of manufacturing a piano requires a large-scale facility and a hundredth of millimetre accuracy. A well engineered piano cannot be made by hand or with out dated facilities. Yamaha Pianos are crafted with a blend of leading-edge technology and innovation with timeless skills of expert artisans.
Q2: What does Yamaha make its soundboard out of?
A2: The soundboard is the heart and soul of the piano’s sound. For such an important part, Yamaha crafts its soundboard from select, high-quality Alaskan or Romanian Spruce.
Q3: What is a reconditioned piano?
A3: Reconditioned pianos are Second-hand pianos whos age could range between 20 to 50 years. Majority of reconditioned pianos are beyond the lifespan of a good piano and are imported from other countries at a low cost after being discarded by the customer.
Q4: What is the Big difference between a new Yamaha piano and a reconditioned piano?
A4: Although externally no visible difference can be made out between a brand new Yamaha piano and a reconditioned piano, the reconditioned piano undergos cosmetic touch-up work to cover its actual age and many worn out parts will be replaced with non-original parts to keep the cost low. All new pianos undergo a stringent stage of material selection and processing to ensure that the pianos are suitable for its country of destination. In second hand pianos, the materials in the piano may not necessarily be suitable for your climate.
Q5: Some Dealers offer a 10 year warranty on the piano?
A5: All genuine Yamaha pianos come with a warranty of term 1 year. However, if there is any abnormality that is a result of the manufacturing process, we take responsibility and guarantee the product.
The reason some retailers offer a voluntary long term warranty without authorized manufacturers warranty is because they may be obtaining their products through distribution channels that are not clear. The contents of the Warranty may not also be clear.
Q6: Is there a difference between pianos manufactured in Japan and Indonesia.
A6: The quality of pianos manufactured in Indonesia and Japan are the same. The difference lies in the cost factor as labour in Indonesia is more economical. Our manufacturing units in both countries are owned, managed and run by Yamaha employees.
Conditions for a good piano are:- Accurate tuning
- Brilliant tone
- Rich Volume
- Superior Sound Balance
- Superior Touch
- Excellent Durability
- Refined Design
All these characteristics can be found in pianos manufactured in Japan and Indonesia.
Q7: How often should I get my piano tuned?
A7: Generally a piano is tuned once in every 6 months considering the change of seasons. However, a piano will lose its tuning under different conditions of temperature, humidity, frequency of playing, movement of the piano etc.
