A Heritage Landmark Enhanced with Carefully Engineered Sound
All Saints Cathedral, Nagpur, consecrated in 1871, is one of Central India’s most prominent and historic places of worship. Built in the Gothic Revival architectural style, the cathedral is known for its high vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows, and strong choral and organ traditions. Beyond regular worship services, it hosts major liturgical celebrations, choral performances, organ recitals, and large congregational gatherings, making clear communication and musical balance central to its spiritual and community life.
Discreet Loudspeaker Placement for Clear, Unobtrusive Coverage
With no unified audio design in place, the cathedral’s previous system had gradually been assembled through stop‑gap additions, resulting in major performance inconsistencies. Coverage across the nave was uneven, speech intelligibility suffered under heavy reverberation, and musical reproduction varied significantly depending on seating position. Front‑row congregants often experienced excessive volume, while listeners toward the rear struggled to follow sermons or scripture readings. These acoustic limitations became even more pronounced during large gatherings, frequently requiring the church to hire external sound systems to compensate for its aging setup.
Even Sound Distribution Across the Nave for Consistent Speech Intelligibility
Recognising the need for a long‑term, acoustically aligned solution, the cathedral leadership consulted Thasor Musicals and Yamaha Team to explore a system capable of complementing the building’s unique acoustics. The objective was clear: achieve exceptional speech intelligibility while preserving the warmth and musical richness that define the cathedral’s choral and organ traditions. The system products were supplied, setup & tuned by Mr. Deon Solomon Doss of Thasor Musicals, Nagercoil
Guided by years of experience working in complex acoustic environments, Yamaha tailored an audio solution that enriches the cathedral’s sound environment while fully respecting its historic identity.
Precision Processing and Reliable Amplification at the Core of the System
To restore balance and intelligibility throughout the cathedral, a purpose built NEXO–Yamaha audio system was carefully engineered and installed. The main nave is now covered by NEXO ID84 loudspeakers, selected for their ability to deliver controlled, long throw performance in highly reverberant spaces. ID24 and ID14 units extend consistent coverage into the delay zones and side wings, ensuring every section of the congregation receives the same high-quality sound. Low frequency reinforcement is delivered through Yamaha CXS18XLF subwoofers, complemented by CHR12M monitors for choirs and musical services. Powered by NXAMPMK2 and NANONXAMP4 processing, the entire system operates with precision, stability, and tonal cohesion—making it exceptionally well-suited to a heritage structure of this scale.
Preserving Musical Warmth While Enhancing Spoken Word Clarity
With this system in place, the cathedral now offers a refined acoustic environment that not only complements its architectural grandeur but also elevates the articulation and musical warmth of every service. This uplifted sonic experience reinforces its spiritual mission, enabling worship, music, and community gatherings to resonate with purpose and precision for years to come.

“All Saints Cathedral’s highly reverberant acoustics long made amplified speech unclear despite many system upgrades. The Yamaha–NEXO ID Series finally solved this challenge: ID84 mains, ID24 delays, and ID14 organ support over Dante, finely tuned with SMAART 9. The result is outstanding clarity—intelligible speech, rich choir vocals, and balanced organ and percussion. Yamaha’s NEXO solution has brought true harmony between the cathedral’s acoustics and its sound system.”
